A Little Musician’s Guide to Holiday Performances in Boston

Wintertime is magical in Boston. We love everything about it. Here are three of our favorite opportunities to expose the littlest musicians to the winter magic of Boston’s music scene for less than $10.

  1. Ballet Story Time - presented by the José Mateo Ballet Theater at the Lower Mills Branch of the Boston Public Library! This will introduce children to the Nutcracker ballet in a low stress setting. They’ll see dances, costumes and get to learn a short ballet sequence from the show! More information here. This event takes place on November 20 at 10:30am at 27 Richmond St, Dorchester MA 02124.

  2. Annual Family Concert - presented by the New England Philharmonic. We cannot recommend this one enough!! We’ve seen littles as young as 18 months at this concert at the Boston University Tsai Performance Center. Plus, they host an “instrument petting zoo” after the concert where your kids can touch the instruments and talk to the players! More information here. This event takes place on December 8 at 3pm at 685 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston MA 02215.

  3. A Family Winter Party - featuring a performance from Sulinha's Trio with Erico Menino and Tom Yates. More information here. This event takes place on December 19 at 6pm at 30 South Street, Jamaica Plain MA 02130.

Throughout the year, the BPL system does a really good job of incorporating music and dance into their regular children’s programming. If you haven’t yet, consider checking out their website as a resource to expose your young children to more music and arts!
