How much do music lessons with Haven Music cost?

We know that cost is an important part of how you’ll decide whether in-home music lessons are right for you, so we try to be as transparent and upfront about our pricing as possible. As with most services, there are factors that can drive the price of music lessons up or down, so read on to get all your questions answered!

The Basic Cost of Lessons

One 30-minute in-home lesson from Haven Music Lessons costs $75. Regardless of the instrument you’re learning, the instructor who’s teaching you, or where you live, $75 is the standard cost of one of our lessons.

In general, we recommend having one 30-minute lesson every week, and we require our learners to pay for each month up front. This ensures that our instructors receive their payment promptly, and it also helps ensure that you and your instructor are aligned on the frequency and number of lessons each month. Because there are roughly four weeks in every month, the typical upfront cost for weekly 30-minute lessons is $300.

Now, there is naturally some variability here. On the one hand, if your lessons happen on Thursdays, and if a month happens to have five Thursdays in it, the cost for that month will be $375. On the other hand, if there are holidays during a month, or if you will be going on vacation and need to pause your lessons, you might only have one or two lessons in a month, in which case your cost for that month would be much less than usual.

No Commitments, Lots of Support

We do not require you to commit to lessons for a minimum amount of time, and there are no fees or paperwork involved in canceling your lessons. Each month, you will receive an invoice for the lessons scheduled for that month, and if you would like to cancel, you can simply not pay your invoice. If you ever want to start your lessons back up, just reach out, and we’ll be happy to get you back on the schedule. Our only request is that, if you cancel, please give us at least one week’s notice so that we can be sure your instructor knows not to come to your next lesson.

If you are considering canceling, we would love to hear from you and help in any way we can. If you feel your assigned instructor is not a good fit for you, rather than canceling your lessons altogether, we can match you to a new instructor. There is no cost associated with this, and there is no limit to how many times you can change instructors. We are here to help you have the best music learning experience possible. And, because your cancellation or change requests are handled by the Haven Music Lessons office staff, you don’t have to worry about the awkwardness of confronting your instructor directly. Anytime we can do anything to help improve your learning experience, please reach out to let us know – we are always happy to help.

Ways to Reduce Your Cost

We want all of our students to learn at a pace that is right for them. If a weekly cadence is too much for your schedule, or if the cost associated with it is too expensive for you, we completely understand. We do require you to have at least one lesson every two weeks, as we have found that having lessons less frequently than that makes it difficult for learners to make meaningful progress.

With that being said, if you need to pause your lessons for any amount of time, you are welcome to do so, and there is no cost associated with this. If you pause your lessons for an extended period of time, we can’t guarantee that you’ll have the same instructor when you start back up, but we promise you that we will match you with an instructor who will meet your needs.

Additionally, we do have discounts available for siblings and neighbors. If multiple members of your household all want to take lessons, or if you have friends in your building or neighborhood who also want to learn music, we are happy to provide a discount to all learners involved. We define a “neighbor” as anyone who lives within walking distance of your home, or roughly a half-mile radius. Grouping learners together helps our instructors make the most of their travel time, so if you have family members or friends who are also interested in receiving in-home music lessons, please let us know so we can give you a discount.

The Value of Haven Music Lessons

We recognize that we aren’t the least expensive music lessons available in the Greater Boston area, but there are several reasons that we believe our $75 lessons are still an excellent value:

  1. Vetted, experienced instructors. Quality assurance is a cornerstone of Haven Music's philosophy. You can rest easy knowing that Haven Music has an intense vetting process for its instructors. Each instructor is required to have at least five years of teaching experience and must possess formal education in music or education. This ensures that students are learning from seasoned professionals who understand educational methods and have a deep passion for teaching. Additionally, Haven Music conducts thorough background checks and ensures that all instructors are up to date with CDC-recommended vaccinations. This commitment to safety underscores Haven Music’s dedication to providing not just quality education but also a safe and secure environment for learning.

  2. Comprehensive customer service and support. Haven Music takes pride in its exceptional customer service, acting as a bridge between the student and the instructor. This intermediary role is crucial in ensuring that communication remains clear and that any issues are resolved swiftly. If a student feels that their current instructor isn’t the right fit, Haven Music facilitates a seamless transition to a new instructor without any awkwardness or disruption to the learning process. This service extends to handling all administrative tasks, freeing parents and learners from the burden of scheduling and logistics. Haven Music’s support system is designed to enhance the overall experience, ensuring that both students and parents feel supported and valued throughout their musical journey.

  3. The convenience of at-home learning. One of the standout features of Haven Music Lessons is the convenience of at-home instruction. This approach caters to busy families who might find it challenging to fit extracurricular activities into their schedules. By bringing the music lessons to your doorstep, we remove the need for additional travel, making it easier for students to attend regular sessions without the added stress of commuting. This flexibility is particularly beneficial for families with multiple children, as it allows for a more streamlined schedule. Additionally, the home setting often provides a more relaxed and supportive environment for students, which can enhance their learning experience. Whether you're a parent juggling multiple commitments or an adult looking to pick up a new hobby, our at-home lessons are designed to fit your lifestyle seamlessly.

  4. Annual student recitals. One of the highlights of the year at Haven Music Lessons is our annual recital. This event provides students with a platform to perform in a formal setting, allowing them to experience the thrill and anticipation of a live audience. Our recitals are held in beautiful concert halls, offering students a professional atmosphere that inspires and motivates them to excel. These events are more than just a showcase; they are a celebration of each student’s hard work and dedication throughout the year. Parents and family members are invited to witness the growth and achievements of their loved ones, making recitals a memorable and rewarding experience for all involved.

  5. Community performance opportunities. Haven Music Lessons believes in the importance of giving back to the community through music. We regularly organize performances at local community centers and senior living facilities, where students can share their talents with those who may not have regular access to live music. These community performances not only provide students with additional performance opportunities but also instill a sense of empathy and social responsibility. Performing in a community setting helps students learn the value of using their musical skills to bring joy and connection to others, fostering a lifelong love for music and service.

  6. Instructor recitals (free for learners!). At Haven Music Lessons, learning doesn’t stop with student performances. We also host instructor recitals, where students and their families have the chance to hear their teachers perform. These recitals are a unique opportunity for students to see their instructors in action, offering insight into the level of mastery and dedication required to excel in music. Watching skilled musicians perform can be incredibly inspiring for students, helping them set goals and understand the potential of their musical journey. Instructor recitals also deepen the student-teacher relationship, building trust and admiration that enhances the learning experience.

  7. Simple online payments. All of our payments are handled through PayPal, giving you flexibility over payment methods, and even making it possible for you to automate your payments. All of your payments and payment information are completely secure, protected by PayPal’s end-to-end encryption for transactions and browser integrity checks. Never worry about finding your checkbook or coming up with cash again! With Haven Music Lessons, payments are simple and secure by default.

With all of these benefits included in the standard $75 price, we hope you’ll see Haven Music Lessons as an exceptional value.
